During the dictatorial regime of Saddam in Iraq 182 000 Kurds were buried alive in mass graves in three steps in 1986, 1988, 1989. The men were exterminated and the women were sent to obligatory labour camps or brothels in other countries.

The genocide campaign was named ANFAL. The name comes from the Quran and means the spoils (of war). How can something so beautiful bear so much sorrow? The breathtaking landscape of Iraq reflecting the heavy burden of its gloomy past. An old man is travelling across the country, taping the messages and prayers of people who have lost their beloved ones during the terrible events of recent history with his radio. His only mission is to be the messenger, to deliver the cries of sorrow to ears that might still want to listen or to the indifferent sky hoping that God might hear. He is a man who has seen too much, has heard too much and is trying to cope with it by helping others in this time of need. People disappearing, kids legs and hands covered with dust on the football court, radios hanged as criminals on tree branches, the cry of a new born baby whose father will never be there to comfort him, the wind silent but heavy with pain, cries, whispers, sorrow and death. Their only wish - freedom to be free.
