FREEDOM, FOR A MOMENT is warm and gripping story about Iranian refugees, who try to reach to the safety of Europe through Turkey. However, the difficult mountain track to Turkey is the just the beginning of their ordeals, as they will not be welcomed with open arms and hearts by aid-workers, but overworked UN officials, with whom one can talk with only after standing in a live queue for days. FREEDOM, FOR A MOMENT is about the crossing of fates of different refugees. They all have their separate stories, they have different reasons for leaving Iran and different dreams of the future. The film talks also about the helplessness of bureaucracy in helping the refugees: waiting for a life-changing decision in front of the gates of the UN representation in Ankara drives many of them to desparate measures. Despite all of the above, the film still retains mostly happy and life affirming attitude. The director portrays each refugee with ovious empathy, but also with charm and positive undertones.
